Well it is official….running in the winter sucks. The reason it sucks is because it forces those of us that find anything under 80 degrees cold, indoors and running on the treadmill…..which sucks. I can only stare at myself running in the mirror for so long before I start to wonder if my eyebrows are crooked or if one of my knees is in fact higher than the other. If you really want to play a cruel trick on a woman stick her in tight spandex and make her stare at herself for over an hour.
I learned a very important rule this week, do NOT drink and expect your run to go well the next day. I had a few glasses of wine over my girlfriends on Saturday night and because I have not drank at all during my training thus far, my stomach did not take kindly to those few glasses of wine. I then got up and ran 6.0 miles the next day and it was horrendous. I of course was forced inside yet again because of the 6-12 inches of un-shoveled snow on the ground. Not only was I exhausted from no sleep I was completely dehydrated from the wine and then got the pleasure of staring at my exhausted and dehydrated self running in the mirror for an hour, let me tell you that gravity is not kind to anyone wearing spandex. It was just painful all around.
Total mileage this week 13 miles…..next week is where the big mileage starts creeping into my schedule….oh joy.
